In Upper Austria, if you go to the foot of the mountain chain of ‘Dead Mountains’, you have come to Gruenau. Toten Gebirge is its name and by the Austrian Romantic Road that is famously known, you can get there by car. By the West Motorway A1 from Vienna, choose to exit at Voralpenkreuz Sattledt. Then at A9, exit Ried or Traunkreis. The nearest airports are Linz which is sixty kilometers away. Next is Salzburg which is a hundred kilometers away or even Munich is 275 km away. Some people might prefer the regional train that departs from Wels and alight off Gruenau.

Gruenau Im Almtal

With plenty of wildlife and people, Gruenau has a treasured unique landscape. It is not just a hidden gem that is off the beaten track, you can find a small population of about two thousand people and this speical place offers different ranges of accommodation such as farmhouses to youth hotels and bed and breakfast and four star hotels. Gruenau highlights include Odsee, the Almsee, Cumberland wildpark and the Konrad-Lorenz research station. There is a vast hiking area, amongst which the Kasberg Alm trail is one of the favourite hiking routes for the many. A pleasant hike on Farrenau paved mountain road gives you very relaxing viewing points and panoramas. Choose to visit the Sepp Huber Hut or even the Alpine dairy where you can taste the dairy delicacies other than having a tour and training.

The ski region has 40 kilometers of slopes that has been ready to suit everyone with all skiing levels. With a separate ski area just for your kids, and 14 lifts. This kids’ ski area is more than one hundred meters long. The Magic carpet will definite entice your child into this activity, let alone to say the ski carousel and the fairytale forest. For the older children or even adults, there is a ski race course. This is available throughout the entire year, as there are more than one hundred automatic snow making machines. Which mean you can be sure that you will get a good snow condition at any time of the year.

Hiking and Outdoor Fun

Here you can get free ski bus ride. There is also a Boarder Park, you and your family and also try the horse-drawn sleigh rides. There is a twenty kilometers of prepared cross country skiing courses awaiting you. Besides, you can also choose to ice skate on the Almsee. Hiking enthusiasts will enjoy the Forest tours and nature lovers could find some special animal park events available.
