What You Must See in Austria’s Zell am See

Zeller See is a small but beautiful lake next to Zell Am See and it is totally surrounded by mountains. This lake has a bright blue-colored waters in the lake and people can be seen swimming, taking a cruise on boat a ship or even boating. It is a the best place that is great for walking about, or just simply walk along path next to lake.

If you like shopping, you can find a Billa supermarket and also several souvenir shops for items such as jewelleries, clothings and especially sports shops where there are offers of summer and winter sports gear.

A historical tour can be made in Zell am See too. Be sure to check out the 11th century St. Hippolyt Parish Church in the heart of the town centre. It is basically a Roman construction with Gothic extensions. For the highlights, spot those ancient red marble tombstones from 1371. Then proceed to check out the historical events at the side panels of the town fountain.

Austrian Fountain

The Austrian Fountain was designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser and this fountain was dedicated to the nine provinces of Austria. The uniqueness about this fountain are the column’s height as each column indicates the number of people living in each of the province respectively, also represented by their colour of each coat of arms accordingly. You can find it at the Grand Hotel of Zell Am See.

The oldest building in town is the Vogtturm (Vogt tower) also known as ‘Kastnerturm’, it is the home of the local museum ‘Heimatmuseum’, it used to belong to the Karstner family for more than a 100 years.

Nature lovers can chill at waterfront area of lake at Zell Am See Park. Another great relaxation place for summer with lively performances and cultural shows from music, dance and festivals. In Zell am See, glacier of Kaprun in the winter is a popular sight. Skiing is the most popular sport. If you want to have a feel of being on the top of the mountain, you can see the mountains from the summit at 3000m above.

At the Alpincenter, in the middle-alpine Tauern region, hikers can check out the various hiking routes and trails which is ideal for the whole family. Emerald-green glacier lake with fascinating rock formations and glacier striations. Nothing beats the brightly coloured flowers and lichen. Be surrounded by flocks of sheep and small lakes with green alpine meadows!
