Transportation to Graz

There are several ways to get to Graz. The first is by plane to the Graz (GRZ) Flughafen Graz – Thalerhof. Several scheduled flights operate to Graz from many destinations. You can fly from Hannover,  Berlin, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf,  Munich, Zurich,
Vienna, Stuttgart,  Linz, Innsbruck,  London, Friedrichshafen
. Intersky and Lufthansa also serve Graz-Thalerhof other than many low-cost airlines. If you intent to get to the city, you can do so via the train, by bus which first goes to Jakominiplatz and then to Hauptbanhnhof or by taxi. If you can drive, you may also rent a car. Graz is near Maribor’s airport. About 1.5 hours away is the Klagenfurt and 4 hours to Linz. Vienna, Zagreb and Ljubljana is also relatively close by.

To Graz by Train

Some useful information you might wish to know is the main station in Graz is called ‘Hauptbanhnhof’. It is situated at the end of Annenstrasse. You can get to Graz easily by the frequent train connects from Vienna that occurs every hour. Night trains coming from Zurich, day trains from Zagreb are also available. You can also find trains that goes to Graz from Slovenia and Hungary. Tram line 3 and 6 takes you to the old town of Graz. If you take the direct services from Vienna, you will get to see the Semmering Railway which is a listed UNESCO rail line.

To Graz by Car

A9 runs through Graz, via the six mile long Plabutsch tunnel. A2 runs east-west. If you desire a scenic route to Vienna, go via Bruck/Mur and take the S6. The toll charge at the Gleinalm Tunnel is 7.95 Euros – 11.50 Euros depending on your vehicle type. If you take a longer route via Bruck an der Mur, you could avoid paying the toll.

To Graz by Bus

There are three bus services companies namely: Eurolines, Linie G1 – Dr. Richard and Regional Buses that run services to Graz. It is inexpensive to get to Graz from anywhere in Europe and the Eurolines from Hautpbahnhof. Linie G1 – Dr. Richard is a bus service from Vienna. While if you take the regional buses, you can start from Andreas-Hofer-Platz or the Hauptbahnhof. Many destinations runs throughout Styria and pass Jakominiplatz.

You can get around Graz using the public transportation options such as tram, bus, bike, taxi or car. Taxi’s can be hail on the street and the base rates starts from 3 to 4 Euros. As a rough estimate, a ten-minute taxi ride in Graz costs about 10 Euros.
