Dornbirn is the largest city in the region Vorarlberg, Austria. It is located in the Rhine Valley, which is the meeting point of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The Valley has a long history since the New Stone Age and Bronze Age and the city has a stormy past with various foreign dominations.

It has charming old buildings and is located in a beautiful natural surrounding.  Dornbirn is not a tourist place in the classical sense; however it offers a number of attractions to its visitors. We would like to present you the most important tourist attractions in Dornbirn.

The Rappenloch gorge

The Rappenlochschlucht is a unique natural tourist attraction. The gorge can be visited from May to October and a trip with an expert tour guide takes about one and a half hour on the established hiking trails. It is one of the largest and most spectacular canyons in the Eastern Alps, which was formed at the end of the Ice Age. It is a 80 m deep and narrow cut, flanked by narrow vertical and overhanging rocks. A 41m high sequoia, a granite block and the “Kirchle” (overhanging gorge) are natural monuments.

Mountains in Dornbirn

The Bödele Mountain is an ideal destination for skiers and those who are looking for recreational snow sports. It has quality ski slopes that are snow sure and well maintained.

The city of Dornbirn lies at the foot of Mount Karren. You can make a trip to the peak or take the cable car. On the top is an marvelous tourist attraction, a panoramic glass restaurant where you have a view of the whole Rhine Valley, and you can also see Switzerland and Germany.

The village of Ebnit

Ebnit is a small village with about 110 inhabitants at about 8 km from the city center. This place is ideal for relaxation and recreation. It is located in a picturesque environment and has well-maintained hiking trails.

Museums and exhibitions in Dornbirn

Out of the 12 museums and exhibitions are two that are definitely worth mentioning: the Inatura Natural History Museum and the Rolls-Royce Museum.

The Inatura was opened in 2003 and it is a modern interactive science museum and theme park. It is a spectacular nature show, a world of senses where you can experience and discover the miracles of nature. You can have a virtual tour of the mountains, forests, water and towns in the province of Vorarlberg. in a different light in the foreground. Solar station, underwater cinema, 3D projections, earthquake simulator, butterfly meadow, etc. make natural history into an exciting adventure.

The largest Rolls-Royce museum in the world is located in Dorbirn, Austria. It was opened in 1999 and the exhibited models occupy an area of 3000 m2 and 3 floors. Every car has an interesting history and most of them are linked to at least one name of the world’s most famous dynasties.
