Linz and Salzkammergut

Other than the fabled road ‘Grossglockner’, Linz is the other place to see in Austria. Almost all the guide books will tell you to see Vienna’s major sights such as the St. Stephan’s Cathedral, the Schonbrunn Palace, the Hofburg, the Kunsthistorisches, the Museums Quartier Complex, the Leopold Museum, the Kunsthalle Wien, the Belvedere Palance and the suburb of Grinzing, including this one. However, we are introducing a little different route to see Austria, that is to see Linz. If you take the Romantic Road, follow an old lovely road into Krems and do a stopover. At this place with old churches and ancient houses with cobblestone streets called the Danube Valley. Then using the Danube Valley as a base to see the Melk Abbey that is renowned for its greatest abbey that is of the baroque style. There after, takes the old wine in the old wine town called ‘Durnstein’. If you travel by a rented car and journey through these places leisurely over two days, it will be such a relaxing tour.

Salzkammergut’s Bad Ischl

This spa of Bad Ischl is pretty near to Salzburg. If you take the E55 autobahn leaving Linz, and following Route 145, you will get to this spa where it is best if you stay overnight. Then head for Salzburg, Mozart‘s birthplace to see the famous musical festival in Europe if your timing to Austria coincides.

Capital of East Tyrol

Go up to the mountain plateau of Schmittenhohe for a wonderful yet breathtaking panorama of Land Salzburg. It is easy to just take the Route 150 and then Route 159 til Route 311. Go west towards Zell am See and have a good lunch there too. On Route 107, go along to Lienz to the junction of three valleys. Wander those old streets and see the Schloss Bruck.

In the early morning, try to set off from Krems and take the Route 3 that is ever so scenic. You shall meander along the north of the Danube river intoLinz and over here, you should try to overnight after a distance of 254 kilometers. Explore the city seeing beautiful sights like the Ars Electronica Center, the Abbey of St. Florian and the Lentos Kunstmuseum Linz. Here in Linz you must not missed the Linzer torte delicacy. And of course, you should stop by one of the cafes to savour this much celebrated cake.
