First and foremost, Hallstatt and Altausee Salt mine is a place that can bring you back in time. Visiting the salt mine is one of the ways to turn back the clock. By October, you will see that it is autumny with its leaves in yellow, but you still can see the glorious splendor of mountains dropping into a pristine lake. You can have a great view from the mountain top of Hallstadt by taking the funicular, expect a magnificent view. Then take an underground tour and explore the history of the mine of 7000 years. Take the memorable slide and be aware you should lift off your feet from the wooden platform. Less friction means a faster slide and have a great thrill! If you enjoy hiking, you will definitely be charmed by the hike down to the village. A weekend trip might not seem as fun as a weekday due to the crowd. Get there by train and best if you can spend time overnight there just once. Prepare yourself with some warm clothes at it is actually quite cold down in the mountain, also sweater, jacket and pants. Have a look back in time where the Celtic and Romans both lived.

Museum Hallstatt

This museum might be just a small place but it is an excellent hi-tech city museum. Where it is situated is a remote tiny village, but it offers a great view on its history. If you like hi-tech gimmicky stuff such as a room that simulates the landslide, you will probably be fascinated by the rest as well. Centuries ago, part of the city was destroyed by landslide. This day excursion to Hallstatt could be better with a boat trip around the lake. You can see the beautiful low clouds wafting around the mountains which gives it a wonderful dimension. Picturesque town and a well-thought out museum, you can’t ask for more.
